NEW YORK – A 33-year-old Brooklyn father was indicted on charges including manslaughter, assault, and felony negligence in the apparent beating of his baby just before his second birthday, prosecutors and county officials said Monday. . York City Police.
Robert Wright was arrested over the weekend after admitting to investigators that he shot his 2-year-old daughter, Aniyah Wyatt-Wright, in the back of the head. An autopsy found a traumatic brain injury in the area of her head where Wright allegedly beat her, according to a criminal complaint.
Wyatt-Wright would have turned 2 on 6 October, two days after she was taken to Brookdale Hospital while suffering from an apparent seizure. It was discovered that she had a brain hemorrhage and went into cardiac arrest, police said. The girl was transported to a children’s hospital on October 5 and died there.
The city medical examiner determined Wyatt-Wright suffered blunt force trauma to the front and back of his brain and had significant bruises all over his body, a law enforcement source previously said. His death was deemed a murder.
The Children’s Services Administration said it could not comment on whether the family was in its system, citing privacy laws.
“The safety and well-being of children in New York City is our top priority. We are investigating this case with the NYPD and have taken steps to ensure the safety of the brothers, ”said an ACS spokesperson.
