Haus Sonnenwald gets another chance – probably the last. All ideas of finding a new use for the former VdK home have failed. If the new attempt does not succeed either, the people of Merzig will have to face the thought that this historic building, which they have taken so dear to their hearts, will disappear. What characterizes the almost 70-year-old house, namely its nostalgic charm, could be its undoing. Massive investments must be made in the building fabric. In terms of energy, in particular, the building no longer comes close to what is required today. Even if the city has generously designed the conditions for the new procedure – its condition is the biggest mortgage for Haus Sonnenwald.
