Depression: Kate’s brother suffers from her celebrity
Life in public is not only very stressful for Duchess Kate, but also for the rest of her bourgeois family. Especially her brother James Middleton has, as he repeatedly made public on Instagram, struggle with severe depression. “I couldn’t communicate, even with those I loved most: my family and friends,” Kate’s brother revealed in a 2019 interview with Britain’s Daily Mail.
Kate’s fame also put him in the center of media interest – and that made him sick in the long run. “Suddenly, and very publicly, I was being judged on whether I was a success or a failure,” Kate’s brother told the magazine Tatler about his experiences after Kate’s relationship with William became known. “If there’s interest in me, that’s great. If there’s interest in me because of her, that’s different.”
The 34-year-old sought professional help and has deliberately spoken publicly about his problems for years in order to break the stigma surrounding mental illness.
