Investigators at the Burgenland State Criminal Police Office have been concerned with the death of a 22-year-old from Northern Burgenland in Mörbisch am See (Eisenstadt-Umgebung district) since Monday. A 28-year-old man was arrested on Thursday: He is suspected of having murdered the 22-year-old.
The suspect – the presumption of innocence applies – is the 28-year-old Kevin A. from Mannersdorf am Leithagebirge. The accused and the victim were good friends and must have tried for years to have earned extra income with a lively car trade and relocation between Austria and Slovakia. According to criminalists, it was also about drug deals. In the course of these deals, Kevin A. and the victim are said to have argued over financial matters, as far as the possible motive. For the investigators, the missing valuables are evidence that the deadly argument was also about money. Among other things, an expensive watch was missing at the crime scene and probably also a large amount of cash. In any case, Kevin A. is considered an urgent suspect and has already been admitted to the Eisenstadt prison. The forensics of the crime scene group is to check possible DNA traces at the location of the corpse.
“The first indications of third-party debt have been confirmed,” said the spokeswoman for the Public Prosecutor’s Office (StA) Eisenstadt, Petra Bauer, on Thursday afternoon to the COURIER. The autopsy showed that the victim had been subjected to blunt force against the head. “But that wasn’t the cause of death. The man was forcibly held under water and drowned, ”says Bauer. When the officers began to investigate the victim, they came across the suspect.
Monday night
As reported, the body of the 22-year-old was found by walkers on Monday morning near a sewage treatment plant. His car was about 200 meters away. The man was face down in a ditch full of water. The act of violence would have occurred a few hours earlier. The man did not appear at work on Monday – unlike usual – and his girlfriend was notified. Before a missing person report could be filed, his body was found.
