Fatal Vehicle Accident in Brooklyn, New York: One Dead, Three Injured

NEW YORK — A vehicle accident claimed the life of one person and left three others hospitalized early Monday morning in Brooklyn, New York City Police said.

The serious accident occurred in Irving Avenue in the Bushwick neighborhood, according to police, when a Kia Sportage and a Toyota Yaris collided around 1 a.m. Monday. The force of the impact left both cars destroyed.

Police confirmed there were four people inside the Toyota at the time of impact. A man in his 30s died from injuries he suffered in the accident. While two others, aged 29 and 34, were taken to hospital with critical injuries and a fourth man was also injured but is expected to recover.

Police were searching throughout the morning for the occupants of the Kia who reportedly fled the area. However, hours later police confirmed that a 26-year-old man had been arrested and was expected to be charged with driving while intoxicated.

Police were still searching for a second person who was apparently inside the KIA.

The area was closed for several hours for the police investigation. The scene was finally cleared on Monday morning.

The investigation is ongoing.
