In the Italian town of Brandizzo, north-east of Turin, five railway workers were hit by a train on the night of Thursday 31 August.
The men were carrying out maintenance work along the track when they were hit by a regional train traveling at 160 kilometers per hour.
This is reported by the Italian news agency Italian Journalistic Agency (AGI).
The youngest of the dead is 22-year-old Kevin Laganà. Together with him, Michael Zanera (34), Giuseppe Sorvillo (43), Giuseppe Aversa (49) and Giuseppe Saverio Lombardo (52) lost their lives.

All five were employed by Sigifer, which is one of the country’s leading companies in the construction and maintenance of railways.

Two other workers managed to get away, but according to AGI are to be admitted to hospital in a state of shock. The train driver must also be in shock, it is reported.

Mayor Paolo Bodoni says he has been described a gruesome crime scene with remains scattered over a distance of over 300 metres.
– It is an enormous tragedy. It cannot be ruled out that there may have been a communication error between the workers on site and those who coordinated the maintenance work. We now have to wait for answers from the investigation, he tells the news agency.

According to the authorities, the train was carrying wagons on the route between Milan and Turin. It is said to have not been in commercial service and had no passengers on board when it hit the five workers.
