The two dead are a 42-year-old from the Würzburg district and his 56-year-old passenger who were traveling in a Mazda towards Karlstadt. For reasons that have not yet been clarified, the car left the roadway and collided with an oncoming truck. The driver and his 56-year-old companion suffered serious injuries in the accident. An ambulance could only determine the death of the two, according to the police.

The 50-year-old truck driver and his nine-year-old passenger suffered minor injuries and were taken to hospital by the ambulance service. As the unloaded truck broke through a crash barrier as a result of the collision and came to rest on an incline next to the road, the recovery efforts for the vehicle dragged on into the afternoon.

In addition to patrol crews from Würzburg and Karlstadt, the rescue service and the volunteer fire brigades from Zell, Veitshöchheim and Thüngersheim were also deployed with numerous forces. By order of the Würzburg public prosecutor’s office, an expert was also consulted in order to be able to precisely reconstruct the course of the accident.

The B 27 was completely blocked for the duration of the accident recording and the necessary rescue work. Traffic was diverted by the emergency services on site.
