Fatal Storm Claims Life of Woman in Westchester County, New York – Latest Updates on Severe Weather Event

NEW YORK — The severe storm that hit the tri-state area may have caused the death of a woman in Westchester County, New York, after a tree fell on the car she was driving Wednesday afternoon.

The tragic incident occurred around 5:30 pm when the tree fell on a Toyota that was on Route 128, between School Street and Leisure Farm, in Armonk, located in the city of North Castle. Unfortunately, the driver, who was alone in the vehicle, died from the impact.

The woman’s identity was not released. The police investigate the case.

The death comes amid bad weather in which winds reached 60 mph regionally, downing trees and forcing flight cancellations. Nearly 50,000 residents of the tri-state area were without power early Thursday after violent thunderstorms hit the area.

Several downed trees were reported throughout the area, including in Connecticut, where a mother and her three children were returning home from shopping and a giant tree crushed their vehicle in the driveway.
