A young man died after a crushing accident in a ski lift in Kjerringåsen Alpinsenter in Sarpsborg on Friday afternoon.
The accident happened when the man was carrying out maintenance on the ski lift.
– All emergency services and air ambulance rushed to the scene. The person was confirmed dead after a short time, says police operations manager Trond Lorentzen to NRK.

The police were notified of the incident shortly before 5 p.m.
The next of kin have been informed of the accident.
Kjerringåsen Alpinsenter is Østfold’s largest alpine resort with three lifts and five slopes.
Kjerringåsen Alpinsenter is located in Sarpsborg municipality, and is Østfold’s largest ski centre.

On Friday evening, large resources from the emergency services are still in the alpine center to carry out investigations.
Operations leader Arild Skarø tells NRK that it is too early to say anything about how the accident occurred.
– We are not finished with technical investigations, we are not finished mapping the course of events, and we are not finished with witness interviews either, says Skarø.
The alpine center was closed after the accident on Friday afternoon.

– Were there many witnesses to the incident?
– I can’t say much about that. We know a little, but we are still working to get an overview of it, says the task leader.
The National Accident Investigation Board is on the scene to assist the police in the further investigation.

– Tragic outcome
The municipality’s crisis team has been connected and is on its way to the scene, the mayor of Sarpsborg Magnus Arnesen tells NRK just before 19:00.
– This was a terrible accident that had a very tragic outcome. You are affected both as a citizen and mayor. My thoughts go out to the relatives, employees and those who were present when the accident happened, he says The daily newspaper.
There were other employees at work when the crushing accident took place.
– They are looked after and followed up, says police operations manager Trond Lorentzen.
The alpine center is closed following the accident.
