One woman has tragically lost her life, and several others have been injured following a devastating accident involving a shuttle bus at a cruise terminal in Honolulu. The incident occurred on Friday, leaving the victims in need of immediate medical attention.

Ship Details and Incident Overview

The involved ship was the Carnival Miracle, which embarked on a 15-day journey from Long Beach, California, on April 6. The ship was transporting passengers, a majority of whom were affected by the accident. A total of ten individuals sustained injuries, with nine of them being cruise ship passengers.

According to Carnival Cruise Line, the tragic incident occurred in the transportation area outside the Honolulu cruise terminal. The attendees of this ill-fated journey were part of a deep-seated tragedy when the unsuspecting victims were hit by the transporting vehicle.

“Sadly, one guest has died from her injuries. She was traveling with her husband, who was also injured and is expected to recover. Members of the Carnival Care Team are assisting the guests. Our thoughts are with the guests affected and their loved ones,” Carnival Cruise Line expressed in a heart-wrenching statement to ABC News.

The Incident Described by the Authorities

Law Enforcement Officials at the Scene

The Honolulu Police Department provided some insight into the unfolding of this terrible accident. Around the terminal’s pier 2, a 57-year-old man was dropping off customers when he was alerted by a bystander that his vehicle was moving forward. In a panic, the man swiftly took action, jumping into the driver’s seat in an attempt to stop the vehicle. Regrettably, he mistakenly pressed the gas pedal instead of the brakes, causing the shuttle bus to collide with two concrete barriers and eleven pedestrians.

Emergency services swiftly responded to the incident, transferring five pedestrians to the hospital. Tragically, despite the medical efforts, one of the transported individuals succumbed to her injuries. Of the remaining four, they are reported to be in good condition. Six others involved in the accident refused treatment at the scene.

Preliminary investigations by the Honolulu Police Department indicate that speed was unlikely a contributing factor in the collision. However, it remains unknown whether drugs or alcohol influenced the tragedy. The investigation is ongoing as authorities seek to establish a comprehensive understanding of the incident.
