A man who tried unsuccessfully to mediate a fight between two men on the Brooklyn subway was fatally shot last Sunday, according to the New York police.
Richard Henderson, 45, was shot in the train car at the Rockaway Avenue station and was found six stops later.
When authorities arrived at the scene around 8:15 p.m., they found the victim with multiple gunshot wounds to the back. Although the man was taken to a hospital, he died hours later.
So far there is one person suspected of the incident and he is at large, police said.

A failed attempt to stop a fight
According to authorities, Henderson appears to have been the peacemaker in a dispute between two men because one of them was carrying a device with loud music.
“It is possible that Henderson was not even the intended target and that the gunman fired in the direction of the man he was arguing with, hitting Henderson,” police said.
According to New York City Transportation President Richard Davey, Henderson was heading home when he was shot.
“This is another sad reminder that gun violence has no place in this city,” Davey said in a statement. “The MTA is cooperating fully with the investigation to ensure the perpetrator can be brought to justice.”
