Fatal Shooting at Purmerend Train Station Leaves One Dead, Suspect at Large: Police Launch Large-Scale Search

Two people were injured in a shooting at the train station in Purmerend on Monday and taken to hospital in “worrying condition”, the North Holland police reported. One of them subsequently died. A large-scale search has been launched for the fugitive suspect.

The first report of the shooting incident was received by the police around 8 p.m. One of the victims was resuscitated on the spot. Both injured people were then taken to hospital in “worrying condition”, North Holland police reported on Monday.

“One of the injured people involved has died,” a police spokesperson told NU.nl on Tuesday morning. It concerns a nineteen-year-old resident of Purmerend.

The police have started a search for the suspect. It would still be nearby. Helicopters and dogs have been deployed to track down the suspect. A large-scale investigation team has also been formed. The police are looking for witnesses and images.

“We worked all night long,” said the police spokesperson. Nothing further is known about the fugitive perpetrator. Police expect to release more information later in the day.

Due to the incident, no trains to and from Purmerend could stop at the station on Monday evening. Buses ran as alternative transport until 11 p.m. Train traffic could then continue according to schedule.
