Fatal Motorcycle Accident Near Ministry of Education in Beirut Sparks Debate in Lebanon

“Lebanon Debate”

One person was killed and wounded this Friday morning in the UNESCO area in Beirut, near the vicinity of the Ministry of Education building, specifically in front of the entrance to Mar Elias camp.

News spread that members of the Beirut Municipal Police were pursuing the motorcycle, but Beirut Municipal Police sources denied in an interview with Lebanon Debate that they had anything to do with the killing of the two young men or their pursuit.

It became clear that there was a police checkpoint on the other side of the road on which the accident occurred.

“Lebanon Debate” learned that “the cause of the accident was due to the young man who was riding the bike trying to escape before reaching the checkpoint that police officers were setting up and checking the identities of the bike owners, which led him to enter the opposite lane, collide with another bike, and the two young men fell to the ground and collided.” One of them hit the sidewalk with his head, and died immediately. The other young man was transferred to a hospital after being seriously injured.”
