The tragic accident at the site of the Suikerpark on Nijverheidsstraat in Veurne happened around noon. A 35 year old truck driver ended up in the water with his truck.
The fire brigade arrived with divers, but it took a while before the driver could be found. “At 12.50 pm, the fire brigade of the Westhoek zone was called up for a truck in the water along Nijverheidsstraat in Veurne”, says Kristof Louagie of the Westhoek fire department. “The divers from the fire brigade immediately went into the water. After about 1 hour the lifeless body of the man could be removed from the cabin of the vehicle.”
It concerns a 35-year-old man of Polish origin. Police are now on site to investigate the circumstances of the accident.
