The fire department rescued a lifeless person from the burning attic, said Albicker. Despite resuscitation, the person died at the scene.
According to Albicker, the deceased person was a man. The age cannot yet be revealed as the police are still in the process of notifying relatives.
The fire departments from Herrischried and Todtmoos were on duty with the large turntable ladder. The building is a tall four-story structure. According to the police, the damage is at 200,000 euros. According to a police spokesman, the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
Other residents of the house are uninjured
In addition to the deceased person, there was also a family with children living in the apartment building, as Mayor Christian Dröse said when asked. According to the police, she was uninjured in the fire, but had to be temporarily accommodated in a holiday apartment by the municipality. According to Dröse, it is not yet certain when the family will be able to return to the apartment building.
Kindergarten operations stopped today
After the fire, the building is in a condition that no longer allows the care facility located on the ground floor to operate. “Unfortunately the kindergarten is closed today,” explains Mayor Dröse on Friday when we asked about the current situation. However, operations are expected to resume next Monday.

Due to the fire, the electricity in the building had to be switched off, said the mayor. According to Christian Dröse, no water damage or smoke pollution has been detected on the lower floors of the kindergarten.

“We now have to wait and see what the cause of the fire was in order to be able to determine the next safety measures in the building,” said the mayor. Due to the fire in Kleinherrischwand, no special review of fire protection measures in other municipal buildings is planned, said Dröse. He pointed out that fire protection is an ongoing process.
When asked, the mayor said that the kindergarten and the family’s premises were properly equipped with fire alarms. Dröse could not say whether this was also the case in the deceased’s attic apartment.
