In the summer of 2018, a lawyer mysteriously died in Vienna. On Tuesday, a professional colleague of the deceased must answer at the regional court.
The lawyer was temporarily banned by the bar after the allegations against him became known.

The defendant allegedly gave the deceased drugs
In the course of the investigation into the death of the 35-year-old, it turned out that the lawyer had agreed to have dinner with friends before his death. There, on the night of August 15, 2018, he happened to meet the accused who is said to have induced him to consume narcotic drugs. The 35-year-old then moved on with this colleague, although his condition is said to have worsened due to the substances he consumed. The prosecution now accuses the defendant of neglecting his position as guarantor. With his behavior he caused the poor physical condition of his colleague and did not take care of him any further, although he was legally obliged to do so. Instead of taking care of him and giving him the help he needed, he left the 35-year-old to his fate.

The presumption of innocence applies to the accused lawyer. As court spokeswoman Christina Salzborn announced on APA request, the hearing was set for November 24th and 26th. The public prosecutor has asked just under two dozen witnesses. In addition, two experts must be heard. In the event of a guilty verdict, the lawyer faces up to three years in prison.
