As reported by ABC12, JauMarcus McFarland was just 18 years old when he was killed in the tragic elevator accident on Tuesday afternoon.

“I don’t even have words for it,” said one of McFarland’s teammates, who was standing with him in the elevator shortly before the incident.

At the time, the elevator had already caused a strange feeling in the passengers – as if it was going to crash at any moment.

Finally he stopped on the third floor and opened his doors. The young athletes got out – all but McFarland.

When he wanted to follow his friends, the unbelievable suddenly happened: the elevator fell. The football player was crushed and trapped for about an hour before he was finally recovered.

“At first his feet moved, then they stopped. He passed out,” recalled one of his teammates.

Shortly thereafter, McFarland succumbed to serious injuries in the hospital.

And as if all of this wasn’t tragic enough, one resident of the building now stated that she had already complained several times about the elevators in the house.

And rightly so, for better or worse: The picture of an inspection certificate she took a month ago indicated that the last inspection took place in August 2019. Another was due over a year ago.

The property manager has since issued a statement stating that the five-year inspection was not scheduled until 2024. In addition, the athletes exceeded the elevator’s 3,000-pound weight capacity when a total of 16 people boarded.

The elevator is out of order until further notice.
