Drunk driving, Stephanie Melgoza, fatally mowed down two pedestrians. On the video of her arrest, she appears hilarious, joking in front of the police. She was sentenced to 14 years in prison.
It is a shocking video that the American media Law & Crime aired this Sunday, April 27, the day after Stephanie Melgoza appeared in court in Illinois.
In this document shot by an on-board law enforcement camera and to which the teams of Law & CrimeAmerican media specializing in police and justice affairs, we see the young 23-year-old student appear a few minutes after the drama in which she is involved.
We are in April 2022, and Stephanie Melgoza has just mowed down two people at the wheel of her car near the Full Throttle bar in East Peoria, Illinois. The front hood of his vehicle is completely deformed, the windshield broken, a sign of the violence of the shock which Andrea Rosewicz, 43, and Paul Prowant, 55, did not survive.
“It didn’t happen”
However, the young woman who obviously did not take the measure of the gravity of the facts testifies to a lightness and a detachment which will make say later to one of the police officers present on the scene of the tragedy and who will accompany her to the hospital where she continues to joke: “You are pathetic”.
In reality, and the blood alcohol test she will undergo will confirm it, the student is completely drunk, and the level recorded is three times higher than the authorized limit. To the police who question her about the dramatic accident she caused, she will declare “it didn’t happen, now I’m going to Bradley”, in reference to the private university from which she was to graduate in the weeks coming.
14 years in prison
This Saturday, April 26, a year after the events that claimed the lives of two people, Stephanie Melgoza, who appeared before an Illinois court, seemed to take the exact measure of the gravity of her actions.
In tears, the young woman expressed her remorse: “I am very sorry and I will never do such a thing again. I haven’t had a drink since the day of the tragedy, and I will never drink again. I want to try to do something positive to change things, talk about this case and warn others about the dangers of alcohol,” she said in particular before the court which sentenced her to 14 years in prison.
