Fatal Collision during Colombian Air Force Exercises: One Pilot Dead, Another Ejects

This Saturday in Colombia, during military exercises in the air, two planes of the country’s air force collided. According to government officials, one of the pilots died and another managed to eject.

The incident occurred at 17:28 when two S-Tucano 27 aircraft collided in the area of ​​the garrison located in the central region of this country, southeast of Bogotá.

In an official statement, the Colombian Air Force confirmed the death of pilot Espinosa González, the commander of the aviation education group, and said one of the planes fell to the ground in the countryside, while another was found one kilometer from the runway.

“An investigative-operational commission has been sent to the scene of the events to carry out investigative actions to establish the causes of the accident,” the Air Force said in a text that also expressed condolences to the family of the deceased.

General Helder Giraldo, commander of the Colombian armed forces, spoke about the accident and expressed “deep sorrow for the unfortunate accident that our armed forces are mourning today.”

The general also stated that “the necessary investigations will be carried out to establish the conditions of the time, method and place in which this unfortunate event occurred.”
