A fatal traffic accident happened in Ath in Henegouw on Friday evening. A car collided with a train. The driver of the car was killed in the process, according to the fire brigade.

The emergency services were summoned around 7:30 pm. The collision took place at a level crossing in Villers-Notre-Dame, in Ath. For still unknown reason, the driver crossed the secured level crossing (half closed) and collided with a passing train. The driver was alone in the car.
Due to the accident, there is no train traffic between Leuze and Aat. Replacement buses have been installed between Mouscron and Ath.
