A fatal climbing accident occurred in Upper Austria on Thursday. A 50-year-old from the Gmunden district crashed at 13:20 in Kaisigen in the municipality of Steinbach am Attersee. As the police investigated, the man, who was traveling with a 56-year-old from the Vöcklabruck district, had not screwed the screw-lock on his self-locking device.

According to the police, this should have been released from the stand hook in the event of an unfavorable movement. The man fell about 50 meters vertically down the wall, came up in a gravel giant about 30 degrees steep and fell there again 20 meters before he was slowed down by a tree. He suffered fatal head injuries and died at the scene of the accident.
