CENTRAL KALIMANTAN, KOMPAS.com – A clash between residents and police occurred at the location of the oil palm plantation company, PT Hamparan Masawit Bangun Persada (HMBP) 1 in Seruyan Regency, Central Kalimantan, Saturday (7/10/2023). One person died allegedly shot.
Quoting Kompas.id, this is not the first time this clash has occurred. Riots and conflicts are said to have occurred since September 16, 2023.

Initially the conflict was thought to be due to the demands of the residents of Bangkal Village, Seruyan Regency for PT HMBP 1 to provide 20 percent of the plasma plantation, but this has not been realized after decades.
The residents and the company have not agreed because the residents want a plasma plantation of 443 hectares, while the company can only provide 235 hectares of land.
Chaos occurred during a demonstration by residents of Bangkal Village, Seruyan on Thursday (21/9/2023) in the palm oil plantation factory area of PT. HMBP 1. At that time the police were said to have fired tear gas.

Clashes broke out again, 1 died
Clashes between residents of Bangkal, Seruyan and the police broke out again on Saturday (7/10/2023).
The Head of Public Relations of the Central Kalimantan Police, Kombes Erlan Munaji, confirmed the clash between residents and police at the oil palm plantation location at around 12.30 WIB.
According to Erlan, the police were at the scene to secure a conflict on land belonging to PT HMBP 1. According to the police, at that time there were a number of residents who confronted the authorities while carrying slingshots and spears.
“So they had to be secured, but the residents didn’t accept it so the residents resisted and attacked the officers,” he told Kompas.com, Saturday (7/10/2023).
A clash occurred. One person was allegedly shot dead and another person suffered serious injuries. Both have been rushed to the nearest hospital.
Suspected of being shot
Regarding the alleged shooting by officers, Erlan claimed that all officers had carried out their duties according to the rules.
“No police officers are equipped with live ammunition, they are only equipped with tear gas, blank bullets and rubber bullets,” said Erlan Munaji.
Kompas.com is still trying to contact residents and victims regarding the clash.
According to Kompas.id, the identity of the dead victim is Gijik (35), while the injured victim is Taufikurahman (23). The Bangkal Village ambulance driver, Fery, described the seconds before the shooting.
“They were sitting around during the action. However, Taufikurahman was then shot. Gijik, who was about to help, was shot,” said Fery, who was tasked with transporting the dead and injured to Dr Murjani Sampit Regional Hospital, as quoted by Kompas.id.
