– Then a big cloud of smoke
BA has been in contact with an eyewitness who drove through the tunnel shortly after the accident took place.
– I saw a big cloud of smoke in front of me. It looked quite serious. Some drivers in front of me got out of their cars to assist. The emergency services arrived at the scene in a few minutes, says the witness.
The police have collected information at the scene and have spoken to several eyewitnesses.
– There have been strong impressions for the witnesses who were first on the scene. They will be followed up by the ambulance service, says task leader Frank Listøl.
Long lines
After the accident team from the Swedish Road Administration and forensic technicians from the police have finished on the scene, a good deal of clearing work remains on the road.
The tunnel in the southbound direction will therefore be closed for several hours beyond Sunday, says Listøl.
The detour will take place via Hardangervegen, writes Vegtrafikksentralen on Twitter.
The tunnel in the northbound direction is open to traffic.
At 2pm there were long queues through the center as a result of the accident.
