A person died on Thursday evening in the East in Buitenpost when a car collided with a tree. Two other occupants of the car were injured.
The police received a report of the accident around 8:15 p.m. The driver of the car had lost control of the car in a bend, skidded and crashed into a tree. Bystanders alerted the emergency services, who arrived on the scene with several ambulances, fire brigade and trauma helicopter.
Two of the three occupants of the car were trapped and had to be freed by the fire brigade. Medical help came too late for one of them: this person died on the spot from the injuries sustained.
The fire brigade has shielded the vehicle with visibility screens. The police are investigating the circumstances of the accident. The road has been closed for a long time.
