A bus carrying schoolchildren crashed on a highway and fell into a ravine in upstate New York on Thursday, killing one person and injuring several others, police said.
The incident occurred on Interstate 84 in the town of Wawayanda, about 45 miles (72 kilometers) northwest of New York City, state police said.
The bus was taking students from Long Island to a music camp in Pennsylvania, according to a message sent to local media by the Farmingdale Union school district.
Video taken from news helicopters shows the bus on its side, in the middle of bushes, on the side of the road.
Orange County Executive Steve Neuhaus told WNBC-TV that there were about 45 people on the bus, mostly children. He added that at least five people were seriously injured. The incident occurred around 1:20 p.m.
Images taken by the news show emergency vehicles on the highway, which was closed in both directions.
