NEW YORK — A 74-year-old woman died after being struck by bricks falling from a brownstone in Brooklyn, according to firefighters.
The incident occurred shortly before 12:30 pm at Sixth Avenue and 54th Street in Sunset Park, the FDNY said. The woman was near a three-story brownstone on the corner when she was struck by the falling bricks.
According to officials, she was rushed to Maimonides Medical Center, where she died from her injuries. She had no other injuries reported.
Firefighters had initially reported that there had been a small collapse of the building, but it appears that the bricks had just fallen from the building without any collapse.
The Department of Buildings was notified of what happened and responded to the scene. It was not immediately clear what caused or caused the bricks to fall.
