Tragedy Strikes as Boat Crashes into Jetty in Sesuit Harbor, Killing 17-Year-Old Girl
Dennis, MA - A boating accident in Sesuit Harbor on Friday night has left a 17-year-old girl dead and several others injured. According to Dave Procopio, Massachusetts State Police spokesman, the incident occurred when a boat collided with a jetty.
The girl’s body was recovered from the water by a regional dive team, with assistance from Dennis Fire-Rescue, during a joint-agency search off Cold Storage Beach at approximately 11:30 p.m. Procopio provided a written statement confirming the tragic outcome.
On Saturday morning, Procopio revealed that there were six people on the boat at the time of the crash. In addition to the girl who suffered fatal injuries, a teenage boy was transported to Cape Cod Hospital in Hyannis with a head injury.
Authorities, including the Massachusetts State Police Marine Unit, the MSP Underwater Recovery Unit, and the Massachusetts Environmental Police marine assets, are currently conducting dive operations at the crash site. Their objective is to search for debris from the boat, which will aid in the ongoing investigation into the cause of the collision with the stone jetty.
The Dennis Police and Fire departments, Cape and Islands District Attorney’s office, and the state police are all involved in the investigation into the teen’s death.
A witness, who preferred to remain anonymous, observed the search efforts from the second jetty, located across from the crash site. She described the scene, mentioning the presence of numerous rescue vehicles and a small crowd of beachgoers who provided additional lighting to aid in the search. Although the Sesuit Harbor Cafe had closed earlier in the evening, there were still people present at the harbor.
Further updates on the incident will be provided as soon as they become available.
