Fatal Accident Involving Sidogiri Islamic Boarding School Members; Four Lives Lost in East Java Tragedy

Innalillah wa inna ilaihi raji’un, sad news has circulated the extended family of Islamic Boarding School Sidogiri, East Java. This is after the fatal accident between the Kijang LGX and the Pandalungan Train, on Tuesday (7/5/2024) in Patuguran Village, Rejoso, Pasuruan, East Java.

Four people were pronounced dead, namely Nyai Hj Munjiyah bint KH Noerhasan bin Nawawie (Sidogiri), Ning Maslahah bint Tohir (Sidogiri), Ning Aidah bint Mahfud (Gayam), and Ning Alwiyah bint Ali (Kejayan).

This sad news was also confirmed by one of the Public Relations Officers of Sidogiri Islamic Boarding School, M. Sofyan Qusyairi. “That’s right (Yes, that’s right) (four groups from Sidogiri Islamic Boarding School have died),” he said NOT OnlineTuesday (7/5/2024) in Sidogiri.

All the bodies of the deceased are currently at the Sidogiri Islamic Boarding School to pray and then buried at the Masyayikh Sidogiri Family Cemetery, just behind the Sidogiri Jami Mosque.

Sofyan said that the former group wanted to attend a basaudan event as well as a gathering for the mother of the nyai in Rejoso, Pasuruan. The accident happened on the way home from the event.

The group of six was riding a Kijang LGX with license plate number N 1475 WU. The car was hit by a Pandalungan (KA) train when it was about to cross the train tracks which happened to be unprotected, right in Patuguran Village, Rejoso, Pasuruan Regency.

Regarding this tragedy, Gakkum Deputy Director General for the East Java Regional Police, AKBP Wayan Purwa, explained that of the 4 passengers who died, 3 people died on the spot and 1 other passenger died when taken to the hospital. “3 people died at the crime scene and 1 person died at the hospital,” he told the media team.

Meanwhile, it was revealed that the 2 passengers who survived the fatal incident were injured and were receiving treatment at the R Soedarsono Regional General Hospital (RSUD), Pasuruan City. Introducing the group driver named Rofiq Abdillah.

“We hope that the driver is safe, and that we will be able to request information from the person involved. Currently, the driver is still being treated in the hospital,” he explained.

Saiful explained that the Kijang car was dragged by a train several meters from the first place of incident, the train then stopped.

Pasuruan City Deputy Police Chief Commissioner Andria Diana Putra said three people died at the scene. However, there was one additional victim who was taken to hospital, but died on the way.

“At first three people died, and 4 others were injured. But we received new information, that another person died while receiving treatment at Prut Hospital, Pasuruan City,” he said.

Police Commissioner Andria explained that the Kijang car was dragged by a train up to 200 meters from the original location before it was successfully moved from the railway site.

Based on the testimony of the survivors, this group of buses wanted to visit one of the Islamic boarding schools in the village opposite, which is not far from the place.

“According to provisional information, the whole group wants to stay in contact at one of the Islamic boarding schools in the Rejoso District,” he concluded.

The Deputy Chief of Police said that there was a door that had just been built, but was not yet working, at the scene of the incident.
