A Tesla revealed the novo Model S Plaid, the world’s fastest new car in production. At an online event at the Fremont plant in California, CEO Elon Musk delivered the first 25 units of the electric super sports car. For US$ 129 thousand, equivalent to R$ 661,000 in direct conversion, the sedan uses three electric motors and, according to the automaker, is capable of accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in 1.9 seconds.
“Faster than Porsche and safer than the Volvo“, that’s how billionaire Elon Musk described the new model to Tesla. The Model S is nothing short of the fastest production car among combustion and electric vehicles. If we compare with Porsche, the Taycan electric accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 2.4 seconds, while the 911 Turbo S, in 2.8 seconds.
Although it doesn’t sport a sporty look, its performance shows otherwise. It combines three electric motors, two at the rear and one at the front, which together generate up to 1,020 hp. The top speed reaches 320 km/h. Musk says the Model S achieved the lowest drag coefficient for a production car: Cx of 0.208.
Even with version cancellation Plaid+, whose focus would be greater autonomy, Plaid’s batteries seem to do the trick. According to Tesla, the sedan can travel up to 628 km without needing to recharge. And when you need to plug it into a power source, 15 minutes is enough for the battery to get enough to run 300 km.
Booth with three interactive screens and games
The sedan cabin, in turn, became more interactive, digital and minimalist. There are new benches and the space between the first and second rows has gotten bigger. In addition, the cabin employs three monitors: one for the second row, the instrument panel and no less than a 17-inch screen in the center of the front panel.
According to the Car Journal anticipated, the entertainment system will be compatible with games The Witcher 3 e Cyberpunk 2077. During the event, Musk showed a brief video game application running in the booth. Tesla is using the new AMD RDNA 2 GPU, hardware with performance similar to the Playstation 5.
Estimated 1,000 deliveries per week
Leaving the Long Range version and the Model X Plaid as mere supporting roles, the CEO said he plans to increase deliveries to 1,000 units starting next quarter.
After a recent price increase, the Model S Plaid hits the market for US$ 129 thousand, or R$ 661 thousand in direct conversion. The cheaper Long Range version, whose autonomy reaches 663 km (although it uses “only” two engines), costs US$ 80 thousand, about R$ 480 thousand without taxes.
