Indonesia has again been hit by an increase in COVID-19 cases, this time presumably due to the Omicron XBB subvariant. As of Thursday (10/92022), the Indonesian Ministry of Health has recorded a total of 48 cases of COVID-19 with Omicron XBB infection in RI. The symptoms are said to be milder, what are the typical symptoms of Omicron XBB?
Indonesian Ministry of Health spokesman Mohammad Syahril confirmed that Omicron XBB symptoms were relatively mild compared to other Omicron subvariants that had spread, namely BA.4 and BA.5.
“Currently, XBB has recorded 48 (cases) spread across several provinces, not all provinces. But this is again intensifying sequencing examinations in treatment, both in isolation and in the intensive care room,” he said at a press conference. virtual ‘Press conference on the development of COVID-19 cases in Indonesia’, Thursday (10/11).
“Back then the symptoms were milder than those of BA.4 and BA.5. Indeed, there were those who were treated for these patients, but most were isolated independently. Even those who were treated they were taken care of,” added Syahril.
Infectious faster
However, Syahril added, transmission of the Omicron XBB subvariant tends to be easier than other Omicron subvariants.
“XBB, including XBB1, is indeed a mutation from BA.2 and BA.2.75. Its transmission is indeed faster than BA.5. It is fast, but like the previous BA.4 and BA.5, the severity level it’s inferior,” he explained.
“Immune escape is almost the same, namely the ability to avoid antibodies that are found in the body from both antibodies obtained and antibodies due to vaccines,” Syahril said.
Indonesian Medical Association (IDI) COVID-19 Task Force Chair, who is also a pulmonary specialist at Friendship Hospital, Dr. Erlina Burhan, SpP(K), expressed a similar sentiment. According to him, the symptoms of COVID-19 patients with the Omicron XBB subvariant were indeed found to be similar to other Corona variants.
Dr. Erlina explained, the symptoms of the Omicron XBB subvariant are:
- Fever
- Cough
- Weak
- Crowded
- Headache
- Sore throat
- Have a cold
- Nausea
- He retched
- Diarrhea
