Faster focus, better detail and color!Samsung released a new generation of 1.4μm 50Mp ISOCELL GN2 pixel sensor

Samsung (Samsung) announced a new 50Mp pixel sensor Samsung ISOCELL GN2, currently in mass production; the sensor has a larger 1.4μm single pixel size, can produce up to 100Mp imaging, with Dual Pixel Pro technology to optimize automatic Focusing performance, equipped with powerful interlaced HDR function, with the help of Smart ISO Pro to achieve a more vivid and vivid imaging effect.

The schematic diagram is Samsung Galaxy S21+.

Samsung ISOCELL GN2 has 50 million 1.4μm single-size pixels, which can generate extremely detailed photos under normal light source conditions. When shooting indoors and other low-light environments, it combines four pixels into one, which is more simulated. Large 2.8μm pixels to increase the amount of light entering, producing brighter and clearer images. For users who are pursuing the performance of picture details or often need post-production processing such as cropping images, ISOCELL GN2 can also take 100Mp resolution photos; in this mode, GN2 uses intelligent Re-mosaic algorithm to rearrange color pixels to produce Three layers of 50MP images of green, red, and blue are then enlarged and combined to produce an ultra-high-quality photo with a resolution of up to 100Mp.

This is also Samsung’s first sensor to support Dual Pixel Pro technology, which is Samsung’s most advanced phase detection autofocus solution so far; each pixel in the image sensor is equipped with two photodiodes, Dual Pixel Pro uses 100 million phase detection points to achieve ultra-high-speed autofocus. In addition, Dual Pixel Pro provides omnidirectional focusing by dividing the pixels in two. Not only does it use the same vertical division as Dual Pixel, but Dual Pixel Pro also uses diagonal division. Diagonal division helps to improve the focus performance of the top and bottom of the detection screen, and can achieve fast focus even when the horizontal pattern does not change. Since every pixel on the sensor can play a focusing role, the Samsung ISOCELL GN2 has a better performance in low-light focusing and tracking moving objects.

When shooting under mixed light conditions, such as sunsets or indoor environments where sunlight is spilled from a window, Samsung ISOCELL GN2 can increase the dynamic range through the interlaced HDR function, which is a time-multiplexed HDR technology. Rolling shutters (Rolling Shutters) exposure is performed on the pixel matrix line by line, and multiple images are taken with short, medium, and long exposure times. By maximizing the dynamic range, it is ensured that the bright and shadow areas in the scene have richer details and more vivid colors, making it the best solution for high-contrast scene photography. Compared with the previous generation of real-time HDR, interlaced HDR can reduce the energy consumption of the sensor by 24%, thereby improving the energy efficiency of the overall imaging system.

In addition, ISOCELL GN2 also supports Smart ISO and Smart ISO Pro; among them, Smart ISO can intelligently set the conversion gain of the sensor to take photos with the best ISO value; use low ISO in bright outdoor environments and dark indoors The environment uses high ISO; unlike Smart ISO which uses a single ISO readout value from the photo, the evolved Smart ISO Pro uses Intra-scene Dual Conversion Gain (iDCG) solutions to simultaneously self-high and low ISO. The reader reads the value to quickly generate an image with a higher dynamic range while reducing motion artifacts; in addition, in an environment with extremely low light sources, Smart ISO Pro can quickly shoot and process multiple photos at high ISO to improve sensitivity Degree to nearly one million ISO level.

In addition to taking pictures, the ISOCELL GN2 sensor also supports FHD 480fps or 4K 120fps high-definition video recording.
