Hannover. The fashion retailer Peek & Cloppenburg KG Düsseldorf (P&C) is seeking rescue in protective shield proceedings in view of the difficult market situation. The management submitted the application on Friday in order to accelerate the restructuring process that had already been initiated, the company said.

All 67 sales outlets in Germany and the online shop remained open without restrictions. “The fashion trade is in crisis. That applies to Peek & Cloppenburg KG Düsseldorf as well as to the entire industry,” said P&C manager Thomas Freude in an interview with the “business week”which first reported on the protective shield procedure.
In Germany there are two companies named Peek and Cloppenburg
In Germany, two companies operate under the Peek & Cloppenburg name: Peek & Cloppenburg KG Düsseldorf (P&C) and Peek & Cloppenburg KG Hamburg (P&C Nord). The original company from which the Düsseldorf group emerged was founded in Rotterdam in the Netherlands in 1869 and opened its first store in Germany in 1901. The first sales outlets in this country were founded as independent companies, including the store that opened in Hamburg in 1911. While all other companies were finally combined in the Düsseldorf company, the Hamburg branch remained independent and began to set up further businesses in the 1950s.

The two companies divided Germany between themselves. P&C Nord can be found at a total of 23 locations, mainly in the northern and eastern federal states, with the exception of the Berlin and Leipzig regions. Peek & Cloppenburg Düsseldorf therefore sells its goods primarily in western and southern Germany – and has shops in the capital and in the Leipzig area.
