Those who don’t have a grandmother who can stitch and sew well, go to the tailor for broken clothing. But that concept is outdated, according to businesswomen Megan and Lea. They give it their own twist with a brand new concept. “We walked down the street and hardly any clothing maker has a website or social media. That’s impossible?”
A moth that raged in your wardrobe or a pair of trousers that you want to shorten: the tailor to the rescue. Only, you don’t just walk in there when it suits you. On Saturday morning you prefer to hang out with friends. And during the working week, the doors often close mercilessly at 6 pm. Just like when you close the computer, that is.
Not if it depends on FITTED, a platform that was recently created by two young female entrepreneurs: Megan Werther (27) and Lea Heckmann (25). You can book clothing retouches with them when it suits you, outside the hours of the classic clothing makers.
Why is FITTED so different from the tailor around the corner?
You can book retouches via their website, on which you select what exactly needs to be done: repair, have something custom made or remade, polish a leather handbag or even dry clean. You see the price and pay with one click. Those who live in Antwerp can have the items collected for free. Otherwise, you can easily send your clothes via a postal point, as is the case with Vinted. FITTED pays the shipping cost and delivers the items back to your address, after repair.

“Lea and I met in our master’s,” co-founder Meghan tells us. “When we were walking around in Antwerp, we came across a lot of tailors. What stood out? They all looked alike and no one had a website or social media. That while we had just learned how important innovation is for a company.”
The fashion industry is so polluting. The most sustainable thing we can do is wear our clothes longer instead of throwing them away
Megan, co-founder FITTED
“Many sectors understand that. You no longer call a taxi, but book one via Uber. You do less shopping, but use Deliveroo. So there is innovation, outside of tailors.”
A helping hand for those who want fashion to be more sustainable
And so came the idea of an online platform where the ladies, apart from comfort, mainly strive for sustainable fashion. “The fashion industry is so polluting. The most sustainable thing we can do is wear our clothes longer instead of throwing them away. Refurbishing them instead of exchanging them for a new piece.”
Because Megan and Lea believe that extending the life of clothing is key. For this, they refer to a study by the Ellen MacArthur Foundation that states that about 70 percent of emissions come from activities such as material production. Through repair and retouching services, you help to reduce CO2 emissions.
Shortening jeans costs about 15 euros with us
Megan, co-founder FITTED
Megan does admit that FITTED is a bit more expensive than your trusted tailor. “We provide the comfort where people can send in clothes whenever they want. Our tailors also work under quality conditions, regulated with quality controls. The prices are therefore slightly higher, but not drastically. For example, having a pair of jeans shortened costs us about 15 euros.”
In any case, the initiative did not go unnoticed. During their studies, FITTED was praised as a promising start-up by the Antwerp Management School and the City of Antwerp. Meanwhile, the ladies have their own studio and hope to grow. The future? As far as Megan is concerned, it only turns greener. “Keep your fingers crossed that our idea is gaining popularity”, concludes the ‘modern dressmaker’.
