Fashion firms fear looting in New York and close their stores during the electoral recount

Luxury fashion stores have lowered the blind on their establishments in New York on Wednesday. Chanel, Dior, Louis Vuitton Y Loewe are some of the firms that for this electoral recount day have cleaned their shop windows and reinforced windows and doors with wooden boards. They fear that the looting that originated during the demonstrations by the Black Lives Matter.

Also department stores, like Macy’s O Bloomingdale’s have chosen to block their entrances, at least, until obtaining the final result of the presidential elections and, above all, after the recent declarations of Donald Trump.

The establishments, especially the luxury ones, fear civil unrest after knowing the electoral result

The current president of the United States has branded the vote by mail as “fraudulent” and has demanded to stop the count. The Republican candidate also threatens to refuse to leave the White House until all the votes are counted, something that could take weeks and therefore increase the tension in the streets.

The establishments, especially the luxury ones, fear that there will be civil unrest after knowing the result of the elections. It is in this context that they become targets of the most violent protesters, who take advantage of the chaos of the streets to destroy these premises and loot them.

In New York itself, Gucci, Nike and Boomingdale’s stores were the victims of various assaults and looting. In Los Angeles, it was the establishments on the iconic Rodeo Drive – Alexader McQueen and Marc Jacobs, among others – that suffered the most damage.
