As the Canadian federal police announced, there is an extradition request from the US Department of Justice against the 79-year-old.
According to the federal prosecutor’s office in New York, Nygard is accused of coercing at least a dozen women and girls into sexual acts with employees of his company and other accomplices in the past 30 years. “Violence, fraud and coercion” were used. Minors are also among the victims.
The FBI was on him back in February
The US Federal FBI and New York police raided Nygard’s company headquarters in February as part of an investigation into sex trafficking. Also in February a class action lawsuit was filed against Nygard in New York alleging that he had raped several women.
The Canadian media put Nygard’s fortune at the equivalent of around 580 million euros. His case is reminiscent of that of US investment banker Jeffrey Epstein, who was also accused of sex trafficking in young women and sexual violence. Epstein was found dead in his New York prison cell in August 2019. According to the US Department of Justice, the 66-year-old committed suicide.
