Farming Simulator 22 has more players than Battlefield 2042 on Steam

The last week saw the launch of two games from each of its traditional series – Battlefield 2042 from EA and Farming Simulator 22 from Giants Software.

Battlefield 2042 has received a lot of criticism from fans.

If you had asked anyone a week ago which game would have been most popular, most people would probably have put a button on Battlefield. Still, Farming Simulator does it best on Steam.

According to the website SteamDB was Farming Simulator 22 had at most 96 101 concurrent players on Tuesday. In comparison, Battlefield 2042 only came up 58 670 the same day.

Dissatisfied Battlefield fans

Of course, it’s part of the story that it is Origin – or the new EA App – that is the actual PC home for Battlefield 2042. Still, it is not to be underestimated that players are very dissatisfied with the latest shooter from EA.

On Steam is user reviews of Battlefield 2042 listed as «mostly negative». Only 27 percent of the game’s 42,000 user reviews are positive, which places Battlefield 2042 in tenth place on the list above least enjoyed Steam games ever. By the way, eFootball 2022 is in first place, with only 13 percent positive user reviews.

In comparison, Farming Simulator has had an explosive growth measured against the previous game in the series. Farming Simulator 19 had at most 59,466 players during its launch week in 2018 – a little over half of what Farming Simulator 22 has achieved.

What is due to the farm game’s increase in popularity is not good to say, but the series entered the e-sports world in 2019 should perhaps have some of the credit. At the same time, there are more Steam users now than three years ago, who may also have contributed to player growth.

We have contacted Farming Simulator publisher Giants Software, and will update the case if we hear anything.

We were not further excited about Battlefield 2042.
