Farmers’ Union Ball: Lost and Found Items Piling Up After Largest Ball in Europe

Let’s say it’s undecided: When the author of these lines starts work at the Styria Media Center on Saturday – shortly before seven in the morning and therefore still a little sleepy – the last guests of the Farmers’ Union Ball were just leaving the Graz town hall opposite. A few hours earlier on Friday evening, the 73rd edition of this largest ball in Europe started, around 16,000 visitors celebrated in traditional costume and with music and cuisine.

In the heat of the action and in the course of a lavish ball night, it can naturally happen that some guests leave behind more than just a few drops of sweat. On Monday morning, while the final dismantling work in the town hall was still being completed, the Kleine Zeitung looked through the items: What was left of the Farmers’ Association Ball? The answer: Considering 16,000 guests, relatively little – but a hell of a lot for the individual owner. In any case, it’s not just shoes, ties and lots of jackets waiting to be picked up (for information call (0316) 8088-0). Watches and, curiously, a bunch of keys including car keys are also stored in the exhibition tower near the town hall for the time being.
