New Delhi – Farmers’ Maha Panchayat today announced its support for the strike of wrestling players. The strike is demanding action on the sexual assault complaint against BJP MP and former president of the National Wrestling Federation, Brijbhushan Saran Singh. The farmers’ leaders turned away the wrestlers who came to Haridwar yesterday and announced that they would protest by pouring their medals into the Ganga.
Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU) leader Naresh Tikayat said that the Mahayoga of all khap panchayats will meet in Muzaffarnagar in Uttar Pradesh and discuss the wrestlers’ strike. Khap heads from states like Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Punjab, Rajasthan and Delhi will participate in the Maha Panchayat.
Actors like Sakshi Malik, Vinesh Phogat and Bajrang Punia, who came to the banks of the Ganges in Haridwar with their medals close to their chests, were persuaded by Naresh Tikayat and others to turn them away. Brijbhushan Sharan Singh said that he is ready to die by hanging if the complaint of sexual assault of wrestlers is proved.
The International Olympic Committee (IOC) intervened in the complaint of the wrestlers. The IOC responded that it is very concerned that the wrestling players were assaulted and that a strong investigation should be conducted into the complaint filed by the players. The Indian Olympic Association (IOA) has also been asked to come forward to protect the athletes.
