Groups of farmers with tractors are still blocking supermarket distribution centers on Tuesday morning. They are still standing in front of the entrance gate in Almere, Beilen, Deventer, Nieuwegein, Nijkerk, Oosterhout, Raalte and Woerden. The actions are directed against the government’s nitrogen plans.
In most places, farmers relieved each other in the night from Monday to Tuesday, allowing the blockades to continue. In Raalte, for example, farmers spent the night in sleeping bags. An emergency ordinance has been in force in the Gelderland municipality of Nijkerk since Monday evening.
Supermarket chains ALDI, Boni, Jumbo and Lidl, among others, are the victims of the blockades. It is still unknown what the consequences will be for the shelf in the supermarket on Tuesday. The fact is that trucks from the blocked chains cannot drive out.
Albert Heijn announces that no distribution centers will be blocked. Farmers in Oosterhout do block a so-called home shop center of the supermarket chain. This is a location from which groceries ordered online are delivered to customers’ homes.
ME ends blockades in Heerenveen, Sneek and Zwolle
The police already put an end to blockades at distribution centers in Heerenveen, Sneek and Zwolle on Monday evening. The Mobile Unit (ME) was also deployed for this. He used tear gas, among other things, to get the farmers away. At a Jumbo branch in Veghel, the farmers decided to leave on Monday morning after a conversation with the police.
About two hundred fines were handed out during the farmers’ protests, said police commander Willem Woelders on Monday evening. At least seven people have been arrested.
In a distribution center, products are collected centrally before they are taken to the supermarkets.
