A column of about 120 tractors protested last night against the new environmental rules on manure, which the House of Representatives debated earlier in the day.

The tractor procession drove from Teuge to Apeldoorn and then via the A1 highway to Deventer. The procession then moved back along the IJssel and over the Wilhelmina Bridge to the starting point in Teuge, RTV Oost reports.

Earlier in the day, protesting farmers had already come to the agricultural debate in the House of Representatives for a small protest.

Manure rules

Under the new environmental rules, farmers are allowed to spread less animal manure on their land and the amount of manure must be reduced in the coming years. A majority of the House of Representatives expects that many farms will encounter major problems next year. The manure has to be collected and processed and that costs a lot of money.
