There are only a few hundred people at the farmer’s protest of Farmers Defense Force in The Hague at the beginning of the afternoon on Thursday. The action group expected “many thousands”, but there is no question of a full Malieveld.
There are also no tractors to be seen on the Malieveld. There are still farmers on the way. One reports ANPphotographer that about 25 tractors drive through to the city, via Pijnacker. According to the ANWB, there are no traffic jams or delays elsewhere in the country.
According to the program, the protest will be opened at 13:00 by FDF leader Mark van den Oever. Member of Parliament Wybren van Haga is also present at the protest and will give a speech.
An emergency order has been in effect in The Hague since early Thursday morning. Several tractors have been taken off the road on the A28 near Nunspeet in Gelderland.
On Thursday morning, two people were arrested on Bezuidenhoutseweg in The Hague, because they did not respond to an order from an agent.
Rather, FDF wanted to keep the protest at the temporary House of Representatives. Van den Oever swore that the demonstrators would remain at the building, even when the municipality of The Hague had indicated that this was not allowed. But later the FDF foreman said that he “had no choice” and went to the Malieveld anyway.
