The police announced this in advance in order to make citizens aware of the “significant disruption to road traffic” that would be expected as a result.

Accordingly, a tractor rally is planned with the destination Frankfurt. “Severe traffic disruptions can therefore be expected in Hesse from the morning hours onwards”.

In the Frankfurt city area, there could be significant traffic disruptions due to tractors, particularly in the following places:

  • A648 towards Frankfurt city center
  • Theodor-Heuss-Allee
  • Ludwig Erhard facility
  • Friedrich Ebert facility
  • Nibelungenallee.

Because of the farmers’ protests, the Autobahn 648 will be completely closed on Thursday “from the Westkreuz towards the city center and from the Ludwig-Erhard roundabout towards the outskirts of the city,” explained a police spokesman.

He added that this closure could last until late afternoon.

The farmers’ protests in Hesse are part of a nationwide week of action by all farmers’ associations in Germany, which began on January 8th. The demonstrations are scheduled to come to an end next Monday (January 15th) with a large rally in Berlin, as on the Website of the Hessian Farmers’ Association is to be read.

The farmers are demanding the complete reversal of the traffic light federal government’s cutting plans of Chancellor Olaf Scholz (65, SPD) that affect them.
