In Drachten a group of peasants gathered for a protest. About thirty tractors participate and several trucks also participate in the protest. The peasants are driving through the residential avenue of the Frisian town and want to organize a short protest at the town hall.
“We are in close consultation with farmers and are trying to reduce the escalation,” a spokesman for the municipality said. “We really don’t want them to come to the town hall. Opposite there is a theater where there are performances.”
The organization, a local group of farmers, is very concerned about the so-called PAS detectors. Until three years ago, entrepreneurs with low nitrogen rainfall in Natura 2000 protected areas did not need a permit to expand, for example. One notification was enough, until the State Council drew a line through it in 2019.
High fines threaten dozens of farmers in Overijssel, like it turned out yesterday. Three farmers have now received a letter.
Disappointed again
There have been few protests with tractors in recent months. Now the peasant activists say they are once again disappointed with the government. The government has promised to find a solution after the ruling of the State Council, but there is still practically no solution. This is due to the lack of nitrogen space. Additionally, nature organizations are now going to court to force provinces to enforce.
Nitrogen broker Remkes wrote in his report that the PAS detector problem should be solved first, before construction and other projects.
