About a hundred farmers protested this afternoon at the IJsselhallen in Zwolle. There was a hearing between farmers’ action group Farmers Defense Force (FDF) and the province of Overijssel.
They came to the site with their tractors and honked their horns. FDF had called on supporters to come. Because of corona, not everyone could be there. There was also no possibility to follow the session online. The farmers were angry about this.
The province of Overijssel and FDF opposed each other because they do not agree on the so-called Nature Conservation Act permit.
Disagree about permit
The farmers must have such a permit, but the Jumbo distribution center in Raalte does not have one. That is not fair, says FDF. Only if less than seven trucks load or unload each month, no permit is required, the farmers’ lawyer has found out.
“It is clear that there are many more trucks coming and going,” says FDF. The group therefore asked the province to enforce the lack of a permit. The province rejected that request because the farmers are not interested.
Farmers disagreed and that’s why there was a hearing today. It will become clear in four weeks whether or not the province should enforce the law.
A farmer entered
According to RTV East some farmers tried to enter the IJsselhallen. One of them succeeded. The session was said to have been silent for a short time. The farmer went out again soon after entering.
The conversation between Farmers Defense Force and the county was actually in the county hall, but was moved due to the announced protest.
