Farmers in Southern Bulgaria Devastated by Severe Storm: Calls for Action on Anti-Hail Measures

Commissions report the losses of farmers after a severe storm in southern Bulgaria. Both vegetable growers and farmers with vineyards and rose growers were victims of the disaster. People from Sliven village in Banya are very worried. They want changes to anti-missile sites. From there, they explained that in the last 25 years, such a large smoke cell has only occurred 3 times.

The damage from the storm in southern Bulgaria worried the farmers of the village of Sliven in Banya. Commissions are expected to report the losses of farmers with massifs affected by the disaster.

The hail hit agricultural fields in Plovdiv, Starozagorsk and Sliven. In places, chunks of ice fell from the sky for 20 minutes.

“The situation is terrible, the hail destroyed people’s work since the beginning of the year, we will not harvest this year from our vineyards, maybe very little,” explained one of the victims.

“Personally, I have been a farmer for 3-4 years, and if there is a natural disaster, now they take me back three years, as if I were starting from the beginning,” said Mariyan Kurdov from the village of Banya to BNT.

Representatives of the Hail Combat Agency explained that the cause of the heavy hail in the south of Bulgaria is the formation of a supercell of clouds, a natural phenomenon that is very rare. In the last 25 years, there have only been 3 such cases.

“The only thing that can be done with proper actions to limit her damage is to take time to process her and for her to leave the protected area to be treated regularly, so the damage will be much more – small. “, said Nikola Kovachev – Director of the Polygon to fight against Hail – Popovitsa.

Farmers want reorganization of anti-granite missile sites for better coverage.

“Last year, hail fell near us too, it destroyed our vineyards, I don’t see any other solution but to build an anti-hail site here,” said another victim .

“Where it is really necessary for a better success rate to move to move, but this is a very complicated process that requires time and first requires a very accurate analysis,” said Nikola Kovachev.

During the big storm on April 25, according to the Agency’s data, almost 1,100 rockets were fired in the country, which reduced the size of the ice pieces. According to experts, this was the only option for action.
