Farmers from the province of Brandenburg have formed a party for the local elections in September – 2024-08-14 12:04:47

In their program, they claim to strengthen rural areas, improve them, reduce the tax on diesel for agricultural purposes

New farmhouse party DLW will take part in the elections in the state of Brandenburg, Germany. The federal capital Berlin is immersed in this province, but is not part of it. The capital of Brandenburg is Potsdam.

Almost every year German farmers have reason to protest in Berlin. This time, some decided it was better to be directly involved in policy making

The initiative to create the Deutsch-Land-Wirtschaft (DLW) party started already in June, and in order for the German Agribusiness party to be registered for the elections, the founders had to collect 2,000 signatures for approval, the agrarheute newspaper reported.

At a public hearing, the Brandenburg Electoral Commission found that the party’s application was submitted on time. This means that the DLW state list will be number 13 on the ballot for the Brandenburg provincial election on 22 September.

According to party chairman Thomas Essig, supporters managed to collect more than 2,250 signatures within four weeks.

“In countless conversations with citizens, questions arose in particular about peace and security, rural attractiveness, relief for the economy and fairness in the welfare state,” said DLW board member Roland Strassberger. DLW’s election motto is “Vote – for the country”.

The new party was created mostly by farmers. The demand for the immediate withdrawal of the increase in the tax on diesel for agricultural products is recorded in the program. To strengthen rural areas, mobility offers must be expanded. In places with less than 2,000 inhabitants, the establishment of village shops, doctor’s offices and mobile phone networks should be specially encouraged.

The nine-page document also contains statements on migration. Germany depends on “high-quality immigration,” it said.

In its election manifesto, the DLW assures from the outset: “As a centrist party, we fundamentally distance ourselves from all left-wing and right-wing extremist ideologies because they threaten democratic foundations and social peace.” But this also means that one can imagine cooperation with anyone who recognizes the Basic Law.

To help shape policy in the provincial parliament, the new party must first clear a five percent barrier.

Brandenburg farmers will have a long way to go until they succeed like the Dutch farmers’ party BoerBurgerBeweging (farmer-citizen movement) BBB, concluded agrarheute.
