Fellbach (dpa/lsw) – The Ukraine war and the increasing expenditure on food, the miserable prices for pork, fruit and vegetables and the higher minimum wage: Baden-Württemberg farmers have a number of worries and burdens, which they discussed at the general meeting of the Landesbauernverband (LBV) on Wednesday (9:00 a.m.) in Fellbach. Among other things, it is expected that Prime Minister Winfried Kretschmann (Greens) will also speak in the morning.
State Farmers’ President Joachim Rukwied, who is also at the head of the German Farmers’ Association, wants to stand for re-election in Fellbach. At the Farmers’ Day in Lübeck, he recently emphasized that farmers are supporting the sanctions against Russia, even if the farming families are suffering as a result. He had also called for additional land to be temporarily used for wheat cultivation. However, Federal Minister of Agriculture Cem Özdemir rejects this.
The State Farmers’ Association represents around 33,000 farmers from Baden-Württemberg. Overall, according to the LBV, every tenth worker in the southwest is directly or indirectly dependent on agriculture.
