The Farmers’ Association Ball 2024 takes the motto “It’s all in the pumpkin seed oil” literally. 750 liters of pumpkin seed oil will be brought to the 16,000 ball guests on February 9, 2024, as well as 4,500 chicken and 1,600 kilograms of potatoes. Ticket sales start on Wednesday, January 10th. “The pumpkin seed oil is a Styrian brand that makes us unique,” says the director of the farmers’ association, Franz Tonner. The ball and its organizers want to show how diverse pumpkin seed oil is with the culinary offerings that were presented on Monday morning at the Steiermarkhof. The Landhaus Oswald with Wolfgang Eder in the VIP area provides culinary delights and serves a Styrian corn-fed chicken filled with pumpkin seed oil and rolled barley risotto.
Caterer Toni Legenstein serves a classic, a pumpkin cream soup with goat’s curd balls, in reserved seating. What makes the soup so creamy? “It’s a secret,” he says. “There’s a love for cooking,” he reveals with a smile. Meanwhile, Peter Dietrich from Murtal Catering is providing those who want to enjoy Styrian cuisine while passing by with, among other things, a Styrian wrap and pumpkin seed pancakes with apple sauce. The pumpkin seed oil can also be drunk on the evening of the ball, as Tonner reveals. Cocktail professional Mario Hödlmoser has come up with something special for this. With the “Styrian Classic”, the green gold is served as a cocktail together with coffee-cream liqueur from southern Styria, hazelnut liqueur and vodka. “It wasn’t that easy to integrate oil into a drink,” said the professional, before showing off how it was made to those present. Not only do the components of the drink come from the region, the ingredients for the rest of the cuisine also all come from Styria. “This is particularly important to us and shows what our agricultural businesses can achieve,” emphasizes Franz Titschenbacher, chairman of the Styrian Farmers’ Association and President of the Chamber of Agriculture.

90 kilometers of cable & 3500 headlights
But it’s not just in the kitchens that the ball evening is lively; 30 performers on seven stages ensure the guests’ atmosphere. 90 kilometers of cable, seven semi-trailers full of lighting and sound technology and 3,500 spotlights make a ball like this possible, according to the Farmers’ Association director. Tonner can now also reveal the star guest. “They are playing their final tour this year, so we are particularly pleased that we were able to win them over again for the Bauernbundball – the Seer.” The Styrian Anna-Sophie, who tops the Austrian charts with songs like “Cambodia”, will also be there be a musical guest at the ball. “It is important to us to offer young Styrian artists a stage and to bring them to the fore,” emphasizes Tonner. 15 years ago, Andreas Gabalier was a guest at the Farmers’ Union Ball for the first time as an interpreter. “Today he’s a superstar.”
The Daredevils, the Princes and the South Styrians are also part of the group of performers who will warm up the ball guests. “And of course you can’t miss: the Pagger-Buam and ‘Böll, Böll, Kernöl’,” jokes the Farmers’ Association director. From pop to hits, Peter Wurzinger will traditionally be playing in the North Foyer until the early hours of the morning. “He would play through to Sunday if I didn’t pull the plug,” says Tonner with a wink.
