An accident occurred this Tuesday morning at a blockage point set up by farmers on the RN 20 in Pamiers, north of Foix, in Ariège. A farmer was killed, her seriously injured teenage daughter succumbed to her injuries, the husband was injured. THE Minister of Agriculture Marc Fesneau went to the town hall of Pamiers at the end of the afternoon.
The deceased farmer, aged around thirty, was breeder of Limousin cows and producer of seed corn in the village of Saint-Félix-de-Tournegat, a few kilometers from Pamiers.
“Witness the emotion of the nation”
“When I arrived here in Pamiers, in accordance with what the Prime Minister announced to you, we wanted to come here first to bear witness to the emotion of the nationthe emotion of the government, the president and the Prime Minister in the face of the tragedy which happened this morning and which unfortunately took the life of a young woman” declared the Minister of Agriculture upon his arrival in Pamiers this Tuesday evening.
“And I think of his daughter (Editor’s note: hospitalized at that time) who is in great danger, I think of her husband too. And so it was also for demonstrate this to the agricultural world, of the drama which affects us all, which affects them first, in their demands, in this moment when they want to express a certain number of things. And so that’s the first thing I came to do here, in Pamiers” he added.
“This particular moment of crisis”
The minister then raised a second point, this particular moment of crisis. He assured that he was working with the Prime Minister and the President of the Republic to bring answers, concrete and rapid. “Although there are some things that may take a little longer” he clarified, “The agricultural world tells us ‘Listen to us, look at us, pay attention to us‘”.
Marc Fesneau sent his condolences
The Ministry of Agriculture announced this Tuesday morning that “The Minister [Marc Fesneau] and his team (were) in close contact with the Ariège prefecture to know the exact circumstances of the accident“. In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Marc Fesneau addressed the victim’s family, “I send my heartfelt condolences to his family and his colleagues in Ariège.“.
Marc Fesneau called for “do not give in to any demagoguery or any ease“. “Ease and demagoguery are the worst things when there are crises like these“, he said in front of the deputies, during questions to the government in the Assembly.
