Police said yesterday that it would be ‘difficult’ to find out who set fire to straw bales, waste and materials containing asbestos on highways. But in the case of the A18, it has now succeeded.
It was not only a hit in Gelderland, but also on the A7 in Friesland and on the A1, between Deventer and Arnhem. Contractors who would clean the latter road then withdrew after threats.

At three places on the A7 between Groningen and Drachten, car tires were thrown onto the road, among other things. At Leek, this led to an accident involving several vehicles when the tires were run into. The driver escaped unharmed.
Companies that were asked by Rijkswaterstaat to clean up the A7 already refused to do so because they were intimidated.
